El Centro – The Spanish Hub at Pitt

FALL 2024

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese hosts El CentroThe Spanish Hub at Pitt, which provides individual and small-group instruction in all forms of oral and written communication.  El Centro’s mission is to offer tutoring services to help you develop your language skills in a wide range of topics: from grammar and vocabulary to pronunciation and speaking skills. In addition, El Centro assists students with issues of content, organization, and structure when writing in Spanish. Students should not expect the tutor to proofread their compositions or essays.

El CentroThe Spanish Hub at Pitt offers in-person and remote walk-in hours. The schedule is posted on our website.

In addition, El Centro organizes activities such as weekly Conversation Tables and Spanish Language Clinics, which serve students interested in meeting for extra instruction or for remedial work to help you perform better in your Spanish classes. The clinics are aimed to strengthen your Spanish grammar foundation, increase your confidence in the language, and meet other students learning Spanish in our department. The clinics cover a range of topics (grammar, writing, and pronunciation clinics) and are targeted to different groups of students (beginners, intermediate and advanced students). Our clinics are live interactive 60- to 90-minute face-to-face or Zoom sessions and they will be announced on our page during the semester. The tutor of this semester is Edgar L. Colon (elc104@pitt.edu) and he will be available during the walk-in hours.
